The best shoe you can buy FOR ANY PRICE. I have the pictures to prove it. These shoes have seen a year of 50 hour delivery weeks and all I did was wear the tread down. The only other wear is the inside heel where my foot rubs. This pair I wore no insoles and never wore out the stock insole. I finally found the insoles that [...]discontinued that I had in my last mariners-spenco! Together they truly make the perfect shoe. Check out the pics. Thank me later. Shoe salesmen-please forgive the abuse I have shown these shoes. If you look close enough you may even see a couple dog bites!

I really liked these shoes. They fit well and were very comfortable.I've been having trouble finding work shoes I like, and I thought I finally found The answer. But then...7 days after I recieved them in the mail,"I ordered online as there is no stores in our city" I looked down and saw a hole the size of a nickle on the toe where the seam is. The thread didnt break , it was the leather that was torn. The leather seemed to be very thin, and soft. As I was going to make a trip to the other side of our state anyway, I looked up the address of one of the factory outlet stores. I then returned them. Exchange was not possible as they did not stock this kind of shoe. I then purchased another style of shoe that they did have in stock, "Tom cats" They seem rugged enough. After I returned home I looked up reviews on this shoe "Mariners" and see that recently other people have had problems with thinner or less durable leather on these shoes. I hope the manufacturer is not starting to use lesser quality materials in a cost cutting move. It would be a shame if This brand ended up like all the rest of the "less thann quality" brands.

    Comments about Mariners:

I love this show, but I assume it's not in production anymore due to difficulty finding inventory especially the right size. I ended up buying a second pair a size larger because I love this shoe so much and would hate to hunt for a replacement in a few years.

I'VE BEEN WEARING THIS STYLE FOR 10 YEARS, BOTH BLACK AND BROWN. BLACK NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I GET AROUND 9 MONTHS OF SERVICE UNTIL THE SOLE WEARS DOWN. THE FLOORS I WORK ON HAVE GRIT IN THE PAINT WHICH DOESN'T HELP THE WEAR. I'VE HAD A COUPLE PAIRS SOLE CRACK, ONE WAS RETURNABLE FOR REFUND/EXCHANGE AT THE LOCAL STORE. OVERALL SATISFIED.

This Mariners boot is no longer made in the black, but the similar Mariners - Pilot boot is currently available in the black. Also the Verdict boot if you like that classic look. There are some newer boots if you like the shorter height design like the Garton.

The Mariner is not waterproof as it comes, but can and should be given a treatment with a product such as Skechers Water Proofer to make the uppers water resistant.

            Q:

Years ago I bought two pair of Sketcher boots from a J. Jill catalog. I wore both pair for ever and ever, (I'm talking maybe 8 years plus) and have not been able to find them anywhere. They are very similar to the 4470 Men's Mariners but I don't think the tan pair was as dark and I can't find a pair in black. They were great because they could be dressed up or down. Can you tell me if they are still being made today and if so where and how I can get them.
I have literally been on 20 or 30 different sites on the web trying to find them and would really appreciate someone helping me.
            Sincerely,

The boot you described doesn't quite sound like anything currently available on Skechers.com, but there have been some ankle-height lace up utility boots for women sold in recent seasons. Some style names of these boots that may help your search were the "Woodsy' "Rager" and "Mohawk" designs. Hope that helps.
