Comments about Skechers GOrun MaxTrail 5 Ultra:
I ran for about 9 miles in a state park in northern California and my thoughts are as following.
Pros - comfort, comfortable, and comfortably, those are the words.
With upper so stretchy and midsole so plush, Its hard to go back to other shoes, not even in-house siblings GoRun Ride 7 and Forza 3. The comfortable upper is pressure free, for the most part. The comfortable midsole can go the distance on asphalt and single tracks.
The level of grip from the outsoles are awesome, at least for dry, dusty, and rocky conditions.
Cons - the flip side of the same coin. The stretchy upper provided little confidence in situations like rocky descends or leaping across streams. Same vote of no confidence also went to the flimsy toe bumpers. I wish both could be reinforced to provide structure.
While I appreciate the plush midsole, I really think the front half could use firmer foams. The outsoles promotes fast turnover, but the softness really took energy away when trying to speed things up.
The sock like upper gave an impression that debris can't get inside. Wrong. Small gaps around the ankles wrap open up with each articulation of the foot. It's not too bad, just a bit disappointing.

Q:Why no wide 2E? The Ultra R2 are adequate in M, but extended road and trail runs abuse the feet and wider availability would be ideal. I was turned on to Ultra R2 via an ultrarunner who said the same. Looking forward to sizing feedback on the MaxTrail shoe. Will have to try on in a Skechers store before buying online.
A:The GOrun MaxTrail shoes have a roomy toe and forefoot fit to allow for a natural toe splay when running, and they have a knit upper to allow for a form-fitting feel. They aren't made in a Wide Fit option, but they should feel comfortable for a somewhat wider foot.
Q:Why are there no size 14 in the Charcoal/Lime, or any color?
A:I am not sure why this shoe was not produced in a size 14 at this time - you may want to try these in a 13, since the GOrun shoes often have a roomy fit in the forefoot.
