I do not provide customer reviews often but since Sketchers sent me an e-mail requesting I provide a review I decided to honor that request. I will do my best to provide an honest and thorough review outlining my experience and opinion concerning my most recent purchase. Let me start by saying I have owned at least 5 to 6 pairs of Sketchers brand work shoes in both steel toe and composite toe over the past 10 years and have been completely satisfied with the quality and comfort of those shoes. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for my most recent purchase of Sketchers brand composite toe work shoes. The last pair of sketchers shoes I owned were a size 10 and were a little on the loose side so I ordered a size 9.5 standard width which is what I usually wear. After the shoes arrived, I tried them on and found them to be too large both in length and width. I guess that's why the call them relaxed fit, which I don't understand if you need a roomier shoe just order a larger shoe. Continuing on I decided to try walking in the shoes inside the house to determine if I just wanted to order a smaller size. I found these shoes to be extremely uncomfortable and not providing any support, I could tell right away these were not the right shoe for me. I am not sure what they changed in the manufacturing and construction of their work shoes, they look similar but feel way different. I did not find these shoes to be comfortable at all and decided to return the shoes for a refund. Sketchers did provide a return address label and paid shipping for the return. I am still out the cost of the initial shipping to my home but was not going to take a chance on being dissatisfied with another pair. I would have made my purchase at a sketchers store but the one near me did not carry work shoes. I found a good pair of Carolina brand composite toe work shoes for around $35 more than the price of the sketchers shoe. You can't put a price on quality and comfort when your on your feet all day.

The Soft Stride - Grinnell shoe has fabric side panels, a mesh fabric tongue and breathable vents on the front and side to allow it to breathe in warmer weather.

                  Q:

I have just purchased the soft stride Grinnell safety show with composite toe, having read the reviews it seems that the memory foam may not provide standing comfort all day long. Therefore can I fit an additional insert and if so what type do you recommend.

If you feel that the Memory Foam insoles are not sufficient for your needs, you can remove them and replace with a store-bought arch support Gel-type insole.

The Grinnell Comp has a composite safety toe. It does not have an added steel or composite shank in the midsole.

                  Q:

I usually wear men's 10.5 Med width. I like your memory foam sole, but also like to put insoles on top of them for additional support / cushioning. My current pair of Afterburn M Fit - 10.5 Med, with my insoles, are a tad to snug in length and width. Is Relaxed Fit wider than Medium? I'm going to go up to an 11, but don't know if I need to go to Wide or Relaxed Fit.

                    A:

The Relaxed Fit design shoes are wider at the toe and forefoot, but still fitted at the heel. If you like extra room at the toe and forefoot with your added insoles, going to a Relaxed Fit shoe should provide some extra space and comfort.

No, I would not recommend that. These are composite safety toe boots, fairly heavy and not at all suitable for running especially due to the rigid toe design. For running I would recommend looking at the Skechers GOrun shoes.

These are a good option, they are a 2E width plus the Relaxed Fit design so they should be very close to a 3E/4E width. You may also want to look at the Synergy - Fosston Alloy Toe model, that has a lighter and roomier Alloy safety toe.

                    A:

Both types of safety toe shoes protect the same, and both are tested using the ASTM standards to protect. The Composite toe is made from layers of hard ceramic and mesh, so it does not bend under higher stress, which some people prefer. If you have a safety shoe requirement of ASTM F2412-2011 I/75 C/75 steel toe shoes, these also have that same standard.

The Grinnell Comp toe weighs about 18 to 22 oz. per shoe depending on size. It has a thick durable slip resistant outsole. It does not have a nail proof or puncture proof plate in the midsole though.

                    A:

The rubber outsole is slip resistant and oil resistant - it is also resistant to most chemicals but not specifically a 'chemical resistant' type.
The ASTM protection in the description supersedes the older ANSI standard, so it does meet that standard as well.
